A sky worth staying up for

Rendering stars and the Milky Way in a game

A ski-resort game ↗

Disappearing stars become a mountain sky full of starlight and dark dust lanes.

The smallest stars vanished as they moved between pixels. Sharing their light across pixels kept the points compact and visible.

Next came the Milky Way: first a faint smear, then disconnected patches. A continuous band of glow and dark dust lanes brought it together, turning with the stars as one sky.

Next: chasing the light—the day cycle, changing sky colors, and clouds catching the first and last sunlight.
